IAEA experts are strengthening Togo's capabilities for the authorization and inspection of its new radiotherapy center.

Lomé, 26 June 2026 – Togo has taken a decisive step towards the safe commissioning of its state-of-the-art medical infrastructure with the successful closure of the International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) technical support and training mission. Carried out from 22 to 26 June 2026, this mission aimed to train and supervise the technical staff of the National Authority for Nuclear Safety and Security (ANSSN). The main objective was to consolidate the licensing and inspection processes for radiotherapy facilities equipped with linear accelerators (LINAC).

Lomé hosts the IAEA regional workshop on values ​​and approaches regarding nuclear safety and security cultures.

Lomé, August 2026: The National Nuclear Safety and Security Authority (ANSSN) hosted a regional workshop on values ​​and approaches regarding nuclear safety and security cultures at the Hotel Sarakawa from August 17 to 21, 2026. Organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as part of the Regulatory Infrastructure Development Project for African countries (RIDP-AFR), the workshop brought together delegates from eleven African countries united by a shared conviction: that nuclear safety and security rely above all on a shared culture.

Participation of the National Nuclear Safety and Security Authority (ANSSN) in the multi-hazard simulation exercise.

Lomé, June 2026: The National Nuclear Safety and Security Authority (ANSSN) participated in the "MIA DZRADO 2026" full-scale, multi-hazard simulation exercise, held from June 8 to 18, 2026, in the Bas-Mono Prefecture. For the first time in Togo, an exercise of this magnitude incorporated nuclear, radiological, biological, chemical, and explosive (NRBCe) risks.
